The project " Spheres of freedom and the protection of liberty in the digital state " of Friedrich Schiller University Jena, headed by Matthias Knauff, together with the Quantum-Humanities network, led by Johanna Barzen and Astrid Bötticher, invite you to the first social science motivated, quantum conference in Jena on 31 May 2022.

The next leap in the development of quantum computing is on the horizon. And other economic regions with global significance, such as China's Shenzen or America's Silicon Valley, have set the pace here. In addition to new weapons technology, new chemical and medical products and new computers and the development of Quantum Artificial Intelligence is on its way. Thanks to massive support from the European innovation system (and its national European parts), also in Europe quantum computing is developing.

Quantum computing is a key technology of the new century and adds a new dimension to digitization. The implications of quantum computing are connected to important discussions. How can we contextualize the developments of quantum computing and understand its meaning for economy and SME? Let us together ask, search, discuss and go in search of windows for our actions! Let us find answers regarding pressing questions about potentially new structures, patterns, regularities, practices, and connections possibly connected with this game-changing technology.

We want to talk with developers, users, and observers about what lies ahead. What effect will quantum computing have on our security? What is the importance of quantum technology in our quest for improved security? What are the implications of quantum computing, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany and Europe? How is quantum computing linked to commercial, social and political developments? What interests do developers have in quantum technology and how does this influence users? What can good governance of quantum technology look like and which capabilities do we need to regulate in the future to protect the interests of our democratic system?

The connoisseurs, users, and developers of quantum computing or its regulation come together here, report on their work, and then discuss with us (and you!) the social significance of quantum computing for almost one hour at each panel. The first panel is dedicated to law and will focus on "Quantum – Threats, Solutions, Regulations” the second panel is dedicated to politics and deals with the topic "Concepts and Planning of the Public Security Authorities Towards Quantum Age” and the third panel is dedicated to business informatics and deals with the topic "Quantum Based Solutions – Creating Security, Enhancing Resilience”.

Participation in the conference is possible both in presence and online. The conference will take place in the multimedia lecture hall E028, Ernst-Abbe-Platz 8.

The Zoom access data will be sent to you by e-mail before the start of the event.
