Sport
Just kidding.
Not kidding. ...nun, es kommt drauf an.
TUKS OF NIKS!
- An abbreviation of "Transvaalse Universiteits Koleeg Studente" - Tuks (or Tukkies) as the nickname for the students of the University of Pretoria goes, derived from the Afrikaans older name of the then Transvaal University College, while
- "of" means or, and "niks" nothing in English
- The phrase thus literally means "Students of the University of Pretoria or no one!" and is widely popular among the vast number of sport clubs associated with the UniversityExterner Link
- "of" means or, and "niks" nothing in English
- During more than 100 years of its existence, the University has produced many No.1 sportsmen in the world including
- AB De ViliersExterner Link a world record-holding cricket player and former captain of the South African national team
- Tatjana Schoenmaker, Externer Linka swimmer holding a new world record from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, or
- Chad Le Clos, Externer Linka swimmer who beat Michael Phelps in the 2012 olympics and reced with him to silver in 2016
just to name a few.
Sport Courses such es Golf, Rowing, Rugby, Wrestling, Underwater Hockey or Cricket are - with emphasis on the vast possibilities offered by the university sports facilities and numerous partnerships - something very special. Tuks have dominated the 2021 USSA competitions. Personal choice? Tuks Yachting. South Africa's coastal line is more than 2,850 km long, and there are lakes, dams and rivers.
