The ongoing digitisation of our society increases the relevance of competencies regarding the comprehension and handling of data. It is a fundamental core competency that is not only relevant in science but also in the world of work and the general participation in society.

That doesn't mean that everybody has to become a data expert, e.g. data scientis or data steward. However, competencies to handle data in an organized manner, use them consciously and question them in the respective context (Data Literacy) are crucial for every person.

The certificate programme "DaLiJe" (Data Literacy Jena) gives students from all disciplines the opportunity to acquire competencies regarding the handling of data, from basics to discipline-specific methods. The program does not require specific prior knowledge, all students of the Friedrich Schiller University can participate.

The first level of the certificate programme starts in winter semester 2021/2022 with an interdisciplinary lecture series that will give an overview of important aspects in the handling of data. Experts from different fields of expertise will present specific aspects regarding the work with data in interesting and generally understandable lectures.

The lecture is open for everyone independent from the participation in the certificate programme and the diverse talks from different disciplines will be of interest also for advanced students, resrearchers and lecturers.

Detailed information about the organisation, dates and the registration for the first level of the certificate programme can be found here.
