Transparency

The Friedrich Schiller University Jena is obliged to promote transparency in science. Since 2013, the Senate should therefore be presented an annual report on all current projects at the University.

Based on this practice and coordinated by the University, the Thuringian institutions of higher education developed joint Guidelines for Transparency in Science and Research (Leitlinien zur Transparenz der Wissenschaft und der Forschung) which were concluded by the Thuringian Rectors’ Conference on 30 March 2017. In accordance with the guidelines, a public report will be issued on this website annually beginning in 2017.

The annual report contains all third-party funded research projects with the beginning in the previous year or earlier, and with the end in the previous year or afterwards. The report is based on the University’s research database FactScience. Information about the projects below the de minimis limit of €5,000 should be summarized in the report. The funding amounts provided refer to the approvals granted for the total funding period of respective project not to the expenses in 2016.

Because of competition principles, the order totals were simplified and divided into four categories: up to €10,000; from €10,000–100,000; from €100,000–500,000; from €500,000–1,000,000; and €1,000,000 or more. 12 projects are subject to extensive duty of confidentiality, they are therefore listed including their branch, and are categorized accordingly.
