Beyond the recognition of extraordinary scientific achievements by awarding an honorary doctorate, the University can also confer the dignity of honorary senator or honorary citizen of the University on deserving personalities.
The dignity of Honorary Senator may be conferred on persons who have rendered outstanding services to the Friedrich Schiller University and from whom it may be expected that their experience and abilities will continue to benefit the Friedrich Schiller University in the future.
The dignity of Honorary Citizen can be conferred on personalities who have rendered outstanding services to Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
