Educational leave

In Thuringia, the Education Leave Act came into force on 1 January 2016. Employees who regularly work 5 days a week are entitled to 5 days of educational leave per calendar year; trainees are entitled to 3 working days. Pay continues to be paid on these days and the employee bears the costs of the training event.

Employees who have been employed at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena for at least 6 months can apply for educational leave with the following documents:

  • FullThis link requires a loginde request for educational leaveThis link requires a loginde including a statement from the line manager (line manager has the option of formulating reasons for rejection)
  • a written confirmation that the training event has been recognised|to credit (the organiser of the training event must certify that it has been recognised|to credit free of charge to the employee)
  • Description/further information on the training event

According to §6(1) ThürBfG), the full formal request for educational leave must be submitted at least 8 weeks before the start of the educational event, otherwise the deadline will be deemed to have been missed.
