Prof. Dr. Walter Rosenthals statement

»Guiding young people through their education and preparing them for the challenges presented by society and the labour market are important and worthwhile investments in the future, and the Friedrich Schiller University Jena is committed to the cause.

That is why our University has decided to participate in the Deutschlandstipendiumthe scholarship programme run by the federal government. The Deutschlandstipendium gives you the opportunity to support outstanding and committed students in a targeted manner and assist them in their personal and professional development.

Your commitment will allow them to concentrate on their studies and kick-start their career. You will also help to strengthen our network of science, business, and society, which is becoming increasingly important to keep the best people in the region and drive Jena’s development as a hub for science, industry, and business.

Let’s take responsibility and help promising students unlock and develop their skills.«

Yours faithfully,

Prof. Dr Walter Rosenthal
former President of Friedrich Schiller University Jena and sponsor of two scholarships

Support talented students at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena with a Deutschlandstipendium.

The scholarship programme

Scholarship holders receive a monthly support of 300 euros per month for at least one year. Each scholarship is funded equally by private sponsors and the federal government - your contribution will be doubled by the federal government!

The Friedrich Schiller University Jena acts as a mediator and assures quality. The funding is paid out in full to the students.

Funding opportunities

  • Sponsoring

You support one or more students for at least one year. The funding amount for a scholarship is 1,800 euros per year (150 euros per month). The federal government will double your donation. You can give the scholarship a name of your choice.

  • Support

You donate at least 200 euros to the scholarship program. Your donation will be combined with others to create a full scholarship. As usual, the federal government doubles the donations.

  • Matching-Challenge

The matching challenge allows you to make a big difference even with small contributions. If the donation goal is reached, your donation will not only be doubled, but quadrupled. This year's Matching Challenge is scheduled to run from April 1 to April 30, 2024. You can find more information here de.

Allocation of scholarships

A scholarship committee at the University, which is made up of the Academic Affairs Committee, the Head of Division for Student Affairs, and the Equal Opportunities Officer, selects the scholarship holders. As a sponsor or patron, you can also participate in an advisory capacity beforehand. They can support both first-year students and students in higher semesters.

Criteria for the allocation of scholarships

  • Performance: Good academic performance is the first selection criterion.
  • Commitment and volunteering: Voluntary activities and a willingness to take responsibility for social issues are also taken into account during the selection process.
  • Special circumstances: Special social, family-related and personal circumstances are also taken into account.

Your benefits as a sponsor

  • You can get to know and support young and talented people.
