
The Thuringian University and Student Union Card (thoska) is a multifunctional chip card that is used across all institutions of higher education in Thuringia for different user groups. If required, it supports contactless data communication for various applications. These include use as an electronic purse for canteen meals, as a copy and print card or as a key for rooms and barriers.

Functions of the thoska
The thoska for ThULB users supports the following functions:
- Library card at libraries of the institutions of higher education in Thuringia (after registration at the ThULB),
- Copy card,
- Electronic wallet for payment in university) canteens and cafeterias,
- Access authorisation for buildings, rooms and barriers.

Purchase of a thoska
The library card is handed out by the ThULB if the person concerned does not already have another valid thoska from the University of Jena or another institution of higher education in Thuringia.
The thoska can be purchased for EUR 10.00 at the ThULB's Central Circulation Desk upon registrationExternal link. Before being issued to library users, each card is registered in the library system and printed with the cardholder's surname and first name.
A replacement card can be purchased from the ThULB for EUR 10.00 if your thoska is lost or damaged.

Loss of a thoska
If you lose your thoska, please have it blocked immediately at the thoska office. The University of Jena accepts no liability for unauthorised use of lost cards by third parties. If you are a user of university libraries, e.g. in Erfurt, Weimar etc., your card must also be reported lost there.
For security reasons, recovered cards will only be released upon proof|evidence that the card is in the rightful owner's possession. Unblocking in the application systems (e.g. at the Thuringia student services organisation, the ThULB Jena, the electronic access control system) is usually done immediately, but may take longer in special cases. Your card should then work again as usual. If a new thoska card has already been issued in the meantime, please do NOT throw away the recovered card. Any credit on the recovered thoska can be refunded.
