Information

Friedrich Schiller University Jena wants to make a stronger contribution to local climate protection and continuously reduce its own CO2 emissions. An integrated climate protection concept is currently being drawn up to bring together the university's climate protection ambitions and organize them in a targeted manner. Among other things, the climate protection concept presents the university's CO2 balance and will include measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in six selected fields of action.

Climate protection concept of Uni Jena

The climate protection concept functions as an instrument for decision-making and planning, which supports the integration of climate protection measures into university operations.

First, an analysis is carried out to record the current situation at the University of Jena. This analysis includes an energy and greenhouse gas balance, which shows the consumption and emissions. This balance sheet forms the basis for identifying potential savings as well as for setting goals and guidelines and creating a catalog of measures. The implementation of these measures aims to strengthen climate protection in the relevant areas and to achieve the reduction targets in order to realize the overarching goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. A corresponding controlling concept will be designed to monitor the effectiveness of the implemented measures and to continuously review all relevant data. To ensure that the climate protection management is established in the long term, a strategy for continuation will be developed to show how the climate protection concept project can be continued beyond its initial project. Transparent and targeted communication is important along all components of the concept to provide information and communicate opportunities for participation.

Fields of action of the climate protection concept

  • Adaptation to climate change
  • Procurement
  • IT infrastructure
  • Mobility
  • Own real estate
