Programme Content

The Psychology master's programme with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy is based on the reform of the law on the training of psychotherapists and the new Regulations on the Licensing of PsychotherapistsExternal link. In accordance with the Regulations on the Licensing of Psychotherapists, this master's programme requires the completion of a polyvalent bachelor's programme in psychology.

This programme provides in-depth specialised scientific knowledge and methodological knowledge about relevant research methods as well as professional and practical skills. You may specialise in an area of your choice by choosing lessons and internships in different scientific fields. Internships are completed in the University's out-patient departments, the University Hospital and in external hospitals where you will see and learn how to treat patients.

A unique feature of the Psychology master's programme at the University of Jena is the close cooperation with the University Hospital and the knowledge in Behavioural Therapy, Depth Therapy and Systemic Therapy that is provided by the three specialised Clinical Psycholgy chairs.

Programme Structure

The Psychology master's programme with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy builds on the polyvalent Psychology bachelor's programme. The regular duration of the programme is four semesters during which different types of lessons (e.g. seminar, lecture, practice session) are offered in each module. The master's programme is worth 120 credits (with each credit equating to 30 hours including in-class time, preparation, follow-up work, coursework and examinations). The Psychology master's programme with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy is structured in different modules, including internships in out-patient and in-patient care and the master's thesis.

The programme fully implements the requirements of the Psychotherapy Law (PsychThG) and the Regulations on the Licensing of PsychotherapistsExternal link.
