Image: UKJInfluenza virus and Host in dialogue
Which cellular signalling processes of the host are regulated by influenza viruses, how is the provoked immune reaction controlled, and which of the signalling factors are potential targets for new therapeutic strategies against influenza virus infections? The biologist Christina Ehrhardt, newly appointed professor of virology and head of the Experimental Virology Section at the Institute of Medical Microbiology since winter semester 2018, deals with these research questions. She also in¬vestigates the hitherto poorly understood molecular interplay between different pathogens of the respiratory tract and the host, e.g. viral and bacterial co-infection, for a better understanding of complications in the course of infection.
