Jena School for Microbial Communication

The "Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC)"External link at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena is a Excellence Graduate School of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and a dynamic network of scientists from a broad variety of natural & life sciences institutes. The JSMC was first awarded funding through the German Excellence Initiative in 2007. In June 2012 the Excellence Status of the JSMC was confirmed and continued funding was granted. Today, JSMC hosts over 135 doctoral researchers and 70 prinicpal investigators. The structured and interdisciplinary training program is based on top-level fundamental research and brings together a variety of experts with the aim of forming a comprehensive view of microbial communication. Institutes at five faculties of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, six non-university research institutes as well as several partner companies are partnered through the JSMC. Futhermore, three Collaborative Research Centers have emerged form the interdisciplinary interactions within in the JSMC and these are integrated into in its cutting-edge research and training program.
