Members of the University of Jena are available to stakeholders in various areas of society with their professional expertise in order to enable decisions and initiatives based on scientifically sound information.

Accordingly, the University of Jena considers the procurement of experts – both for individual discussions and for expert opinions or committee work – to be an important task in the area of the Third Mission.

Political and social consultation

Members of the University of Jena are therefore active as advisors in various fields. They see their task primarily in communicating scientific knowledge in an accessible way so that political actors can make optimally informed decisions.

Jena experts work, for example, in committees at federal level – in the field of economic policy – in the Commission of Experts for Research and Innovation (Prof. Dr Uwe Cantner) or – in the field of civil security – in the Expert Group on Security Research at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Prof. Dr Anika Klafki).

Within the framework of the Centre for Research on Right-Wing Extremism, Democracy Building and Social Integration (KomRex), researchers from various fields compile knowledge on the relevant topics and also offer advice on the relevant areas, for example. Social scientists produce the Thüringen-Monitor every year and work together with the universities of Halle and Mannheim to produce a Deutschland-Monitor.

The Centre for Digital Transformation Thuringia (ZeTT) analyses current developments in the field of digitalisation and their impact on the economy and the world of work. Based on this, it advises companies and employees in the key sectors of the Free State and develops and tests innovative teaching and learning concepts for identified qualification needs.

Other focal points of consultancy are, for example, in the area of climate impact research, in medical and health research – and related legal issues – or in questions of applied ethics.

Expert reports

Scientists at the University of Jena are available for expert reports and impact assessments to assist institutions and stakeholders with far-reaching and difficult-to-understand issues. Jena lawyers, for example, provide support on legal issues.
