Felix Herold received one of the six scholarships "Deutschlandstipendium" funded by the Matching-Challenge de 2023.
What are you studying and why did you choose this course?
I decided to study Indo-European and Romance Studies because, in addition to Latin and Ancient Greek, I have been interested in the logical structure and patterns underlying languages since I was at school. I also wanted to learn Spanish, a world language.
Why did you apply for the Deutschlandstipendium and what does the support mean for you?
The Indo-European language family includes almost 220 languages, and it is impossible to get to know them all in a Bachelor's or Master's degree course. However, in order to at least gain a greater and broader insight into the different languages, there are always lectures and summer schools from other universities. As Indo-European Studies is a very small subject, the summer schools take place all over Europe, such as in Leiden, Padua or Vienna, which makes participation expensive due to accommodation costs. I am pleased that the financial support from the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship enables me to attend some of the summer schools.
You received one of the first scholarships financed through crowdfunding. What would you like to tell the people who donated?
Thank you very much! Your support makes it possible for me to be able to devote myself to my studies without restrictions!
