Jonas Dragendorf received one of the six scholarships "Deutschlandstipendium" funded by the Matching-Challenge de 2023.
What are you studying and why did you choose this course?
I'm currently in my third semester of my M.Sc. in Psychology with a Master's focus on "Work, Education and Society". Before starting my studies, I was traditionally fascinated by why people think what they think and why they act and feel in certain ways. In addition, my year of voluntary social work in an Indian children's home contributed to my desire to understand people's fates. I initially enrolled purely out of interest, but quickly realized the wide range of career opportunities available.
Why did you apply for the Deutschlandstipendium and what does the support mean for you?
A fellow student told me about the Deutschlandstipendium. It enabled me to continue volunteering during my semester abroad without having to work alongside my studies. Now it gives me the freedom to balance my studies with my free time and voluntary work on the one hand, and the freedom not to have to think so carefully about everyday things, such as shopping, but to be able to buy better quality food on the other. In addition, of course, it is also an appreciation of my academic achievements and a source of motivation.
You received one of the first scholarships financed through crowdfunding. What would you like to tell the people who donated?
First of all, I would like to thank the donors! I think that the scholarship is an enormous mental relief for young people, especially after Covid, and enables them to catch up on the above-mentioned opportunities.
