Objective

One of LIGHT's central tasks is to increase diversity among the researchers of the LIGHT profile. The current subject-specific low diversity of researchers in the LIGHT profile squanders scientific creative potential of a broad section of the population and thus hindering not only the development of science, but also individual career prospects. LIGHT wants to adress this problem with the following measures.

Funding content

The researchers of the LIGHT profile can therefore apply for funding to support measures to increase diversity in the LIGHT profile and in particular to support the recruitment of new young female scientists.

The following measures are to be supported, just as other formats of diversity support if the added value for the LIGHT profile is adequately substantiated.

LIGHT Junior Groups

Initiatives to recruit new junior group leaders from outside the location are to be supported through additional financial commitments, whereby the financing of the actual junior group leader positions must already be fixed. The additional funding can be granted if it significantly increases the attractiveness of the position and thus the chances of attracting a promising new junior research group leader.

The focus here is on recruiting female junior researchers with a strong connection to the main research areas of the LIGHT profile that is of broad interest. The topic and junior researcher should have the potential to be developed into a coordinated funding program in which the junior researcher can act as an applicant.

Funding amount: 20,000 € non-assigned funds as start-up financing for the junior research group. Provided that filling the position is expected to strengthen the LIGHT profile, the funds can be committed before the position is advertised in order to increase the attractiveness of the call for applications. However, the approved funds can only be used within the year of approval.

LIGHT Guest Professorships

Initiatives for the recruitment of LIGHT guest professors can be supported. The guest professors should have a research profile that is strongly related to one of the main research areas of the LIGHT profile. The visiting professor should be suitable as a role model to inspire the development of young female researchers in the LIGHT profile.

During the period of their visiting professorship, the visiting professors should be active in research and teaching at the University of Jena on topics that are of interest to a wider spectrum than a single working group.

Funding amount: up to 20,000 € per visiting professor.
