Introduction of a Configuration Management Database (CMDB)
The University Computer Centre at FSU Jena is planning to centralise and merge various data sources with the i-doit software in order to improve the management and application of its services. The aim is a transparent definition of responsibilities, the automation of verification processes, the creation of object links and the recognition of technical dependencies in order to be able to quickly and flexibly recognise possible service restrictions in the event of component failure. The introduction of a CMDB makes it possible to map the URZ infrastructure in a centralised system, thus ensuring efficient lifecycle management of the infrastructure components.

Relaunch of the URZ website
The University Computer Centre's website is the central information portal for all questions relating to IT services at FSU Jena. In order to give the website a contemporary appearance and to make existing content more efficient, the URZ has carried out a timely relaunch of its complete website in order to effectively improve the external presentation of the URZ. In particular, the range of services has been given a new and clear presentation, which should make it easier to find information quickly and intuitively. This will enable a customer- and user-friendly presentation of the URZ's range of services.

Completed projects
2017 - Expansion of server room capacities
In addition to smaller server room capacities at various locations, the URZ operates two main computer rooms with an electrical connection capacity of approx. 100 kW each. In order to cover medium-term requirements, rooms at the main site Johannisfriedhof will be upgraded with a total capacity of a further 400 kW. This includes: an additional medium-voltage supply, battery-buffered power supplies with 2x200 kW capacity, cold water cooling circuits with 400 kW recooling capacity.
The funds of just under €1,000,000 for the expansion were obtained from the Free State of Thuringia.
