Germany and China have a long-standing partnership in research and education. At the same time, China is increasingly becoming a competitor and systemic rival. The Chinese leadership is closing technological gaps through massive investment in research and innovation. China is striving for a leading role in science, technology and the military sector. For cooperation in the STEM fields, this means major risks on the one hand, but also scientific opportunities on the other.

As part of the “China Orientation”, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is holding several series of events and exchange formats to support science organizations and researchers in weighing up and shaping their cooperation with China. A new series of workshops has been developed specifically for young researchers from the STEM fields. The aim is to support young researchers in making informed cooperation decisions and shaping potential collaborations with China responsibly.
