There will be insights into various aspects of sustainability, practical tips and inspiration for your own everyday (university) life as well as the opportunity to exchange ideas with others. A new focus topic awaits you every day with various workshops, hands-on activities, a film evening and much more.

All affiliates - students and staff - of the university are welcome!

  • Monday, 5 May: Climate justice

    "Ökozid". The climate crisis - Germany in the dock. Film evening in cooperation with Hörsaalkino Jena e.V.

    The film "Ökozid" addresses issues of global climate justice between the polluter countries of the Global North and the countries in the Global South that are increasingly affected by climate change. Afterwards there will be an opportunity to discuss the film.

    Summer, sun, no heat? Heat stress in the workplace. Workshop for employees
    9am-12pm, online via Zoom
    with registration, until 4.5.25


    Heat is one of the biggest climate change-related health risks. The event will provide information on the health consequences of heat, practical strategies for dealing better with heat in the workplace and requirements from the (subject) area|field of labour law and protection.

    The speakers at the event are Daniel Knopf (Climate Adaptation Coordinator City of Jena), Dr Anne Seidel (Specialist in Occupational Medicine, Occupational Health Service at Jena University Hospital) and Matthias Fleischer (Head of the Occupational Safety Office at Friedrich Schiller University Jena).

    The information event is aimed in particular at employees. However, interested students are also welcome.

    Saving paper in everyday university life - workshop for employees

    Paper is an integral part of everyday university life - from scripts and documents for examinations to administration. But how high is our consumption really, and what are the ecological consequences? This interactive workshop raises awareness of the importance of saving paper and provides practical solutions.

    After a brief introduction with facts and an inventory of paper consumption at the university, sustainable alternatives and proven strategies for reduction will be discussed. Together we will draw up a list of concrete measures that can be implemented immediately in everyday university life.

    The workshop is aimed in particular at employees in research, teaching and administration.

    How environmentally friendly is our paper consumption really? You can test your knowledge of paper recycling, environmental impact, sustainable paper seals and smart paper use in a quiz. Find out exciting facts about how much water and energy is needed to produce paper, which seals are really sustainable and how you can save paper in your everyday life. Take part and become a paper expert!

    The quiz will be available on our website from 5 May and also after Sustainability Week.

    From fast fashion to the slow look. Workshop for students in cooperation with Greenpeace Jena

    Fashion and fast fashion are a perennial favourite - literally. How does the fashion industry work and how can we make our fashion consumption sustainable? In this workshop, these and other questions will be addressed and alternatives discussed.

    Have you ever darned socks, closed holes with embroidery techniques and made your own fabric bags or plant hanging baskets with fabric remnants? No, but would you like to learn? Then come to our upcycling workshops with the environmental department! There are three different workshops to choose from.
