A crowd of more than 100 people watched on 26 February the finale of the "Three Minute Thesis" competition in the Rosensäle. In this competition, doctoral candidates present their thesis in just three minutes on a single slide.

In the end, doctoral researcher Sayali Hanamghar from the Matthias Schleiden Institute of Genetics, Bioinformatics and Molecular Botany won. She received both the jury and the audience award for her presentation “50 Shades of Yellow”. In it, she explains how she extracted colorants for various purposes from yellow beetroot. The jury prize is endowed with 100 euros. Runner-up for both prizes was Ngoc Dong Nhi Vo from the Institute of Internal Medicine with her presentation “A Recipe for Kidney Health”.

3MT® is an internationally renowned competition that is conducted at numerous universities throughout the world. It was invented in 2008 by the University of Queensland, Australia, and the Coimbra Group has established this competition in Europe. As a member of this renowned university network, the University of Jena takes part in this competition. The winner from Jena will take part in the Europe-wide preliminary competition with her presentation. The three best participants can present their paper at this year's Three-Minute-Thesis Final in Turku and win up to 3000 euros.
