As a postdoc, you can do research and use resources at Jena University, even if you do not (yet) have an employment contract with Jena University. This applies in particular to

  • Postdocs in transitional phases, for example while they are applying for a fellowship or submitting their own third-party funding application,
  • external habilitation candidates,
  • lecturers with a PhD, who are doing research in affiliation with Jena University at the same time.

With the status as a postdoc of Jena University, you have the possibility to

  • get an account with the university computer centre and a campus card (thoska),
  • participate in qualification courses offered by the Graduate Academy and the Servicestelle LehreLernen (institute for university didactics qualification),
  • to apply for announcements for postdocs of the Jena University (Pro Chance exchange, Impulse conferences, organisation of scientific events).

In order to get the postdoc status at Jena University and to use the connected resources, the following steps are necessary:

  • Acceptance and confirmation of a professor

The first step is to get a professor's confirmation that you can do research at their chair or institute and receive support for your research project. Depending on the field of research, this may include the use of a laboratory and working material, in other cases it may involve non-material support through feedback or the support of a third-party funding application. In any case, the thematic integration and support is the prerequisite for the postdoctoral status at Jena University.

  • Registration as a postdoc and guest research contract

When having an agreement with a professor, please register in the postdoc registration portalExternal link. Via the registration portal you will receive the guest researcher contract, which your supervisor must sign. With this contract you can use certain resources of the University.

You will receive the thoska after your registration.
