Information

This service is aimed at members of the university or university-related institutions and is offered free of charge by the Printing Services Department, provided it is required for official use.

The Customer- and Printing Centre has expanded its range of services in the third dimension. With the new technology, it is possible to convert a real object into a 3D model as precisely as possible and thus easily create a potential 3D print template. The resulting 3D models can then be used in a variety of ways.

be used in a variety of ways.

The data created can be used for digital teaching, for digital archiving, as a basis for processing or as a print sample. We use two scanners, each of which covers specific applications and fulfils specific requirements. Depending on your needs, we can provide you with various file formats. In addition to the usual formats such as .obj and .stl, it is also possible, for example, to create a 3D PDF (sample)pdf, 89 mb · de Of course, it is also possible to make a copy of the scanned objects on our 3D printers, more information can be found at:

How is the data captured during 3D scanning?

In the following video, we show you an example of the working method and the detailed data capture of an archaeological jug.

Video: University of Jena

The geometry of objects is completely captured during 3D scanning. Two different scanners with different parameters are currently available in the computer centre. These capture objects and smaller objects under 20 cm as well as medium-sized to large objects from approx. 20 cm to 1200 cm
