As a result of the 2nd Jena Postdoc Study, the Graduate Academy has initiated a peer coaching programme. All postdocs of the University of Jena - academic researchers with doctorates, fellows, junior research group leaders - can participate. Across disciplines or among colleagues: Other perspectives often bring surprising insights!

What does peer coaching mean?

The peer coaching for postdocs is a transdisciplinary offer that should enable the participants to engage in an eye-level exchange about important topics and to get to know the perspectives of postdocs from other disciplines - both in professional terms and with regard to their own roles, e.g. in the university and in the scientific community.

As a method, peer coaching or peer case consultation (intervision), refers to a way of solution-focused exchange in a group of colleagues or peers connected by a common theme or issue.

Who can make use of this format?

Regardless of whether you are an academic researcher, a junior research group leader, a mid-level lecturer, a post-doctoral researcher, etc., you will face similar questions:

  • the new and different roles
  • new responsibilities for staff, projects and funding,
  • career decisions,
  • conflicts,
  • your own work-life balance.
  • Peer coaching initiatives

A peer networking group may be an excellent option to establish a regular and helpful exchange over professional and interdisciplinary ideas at eye level. The Graduate Academy helps you to start your own group on specific topics or issues. We offer guidance and individual support like:

    • We organize appointments and coordination of like-minded people for you and are contact persons for questions and concerns.
    • We organize a kick-off-workshop with experienced experts for each coaching topic.
    • Afterwards, you tackle the topic as a group over a longer period of time in regular meetings, while we help with the organization.
    • As a long-term peer coaching group, you can receive more expert workshops especially for your group.

If you are interested in peer coaching on your own topics, please feel free to contact us (see below).

Please note: There is already a self-initiated group on the topic "Supervision of doctoral candidates". If you are interested in this topic, please contact us!

  • Peer Coaching as part of the qualification programme

Since 2021, the Graduate Academy has been offering a specific peer coaching programme for international postdocs. This guided programme helps postdocs who have recently arrived in Jena or Germany to engage in a more intensive exchange on general issues about postdoc life, and to network independently. This coaching takes place in English and if you are intereested in being part of a peer network group, you may register for the offer via the qualification programme.

The next international peer coaching programme for postdocs is expected to take place from April 2024 onwards; registration will be possible from the end of February via the university's qualification portalExternal link.
