Concerning the territory, Japan is the fourth-largest island state in the world. It consists of almost 7,000 single islands, the main ones being Honshū and Hokkaidō. Mount Fuji or Fujiyama is the highest mountain in the country; it is an active volcano with a height of over 3,700 m.

Approximately 120 million people in the world speak Japanese. It is especially interesting as its extensive and distinct vocabulary allows for many linguistic nuances. The richness of the Japanese vocabulary needs a considerable number of different written characters. To learn Japanese thus requires a lot of endurance and continual engagement.
