With around 16,500 students and more than 10,000 employees, the university significantly shapes the character of the city of Jena. The university recognizes the resulting social responsibility and aims to fulfill it by engaging in the sustainable development of the city and region. The Declaration of Principles on Sustainability adopted by the Senate sets goals for the various university areas and serves as the basis for the development of the sustainability strategy for the University of Jena.

    We are supporting the CITY CYCLING Jena campaign again this year and cordially invite all members and affiliates of the University to become part of our "Team University of Jena"! Join in and cycle for the University of Jena this summer - every kilometre counts!

  • Sustainability strategy

    On 19 December 2023, the Executive Board of the University of Jena adopted the sustainability strategy. More than 130 university members were involved in its creation.

  • Sustainability briefing

    The Senate Sustainability Working Group produces a monthly sustainability briefing for university members. The briefing provides information on relevant developments at universities in the area of sustainability.
