How does the allocation process work?
With the exception of the places from the quota for foreign applicants and the quota for professionally qualified persons (trial study), all places available at the University of Jena are allocated via HochschulstartExternal link. This also includes the allocation of study places within the framework of the university selection procedure (German abbreviation 'AdH'). Prior to the procedure explained here, a small number of study places are allocated to special target groups (e.g. applicants for a second undergraduate study programme (3%), hardship cases (2%) etc.) via advance quotas.
The remaining study places for Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy (1st subject-related semester) are allocated as follows:
- 30% of the places according to the average grade (best Abitur quota)
- 10% of places according to the aptitude quota
- 60% of places according to the result of a university selection procedure
All applicants automatically participate in all three quotas.

For further information, please see the statutes of Friedrich Schiller University on the selection procedure de (in German only).
What are the criteria for the allocation of study places in the respective quota?
Quota | Medicine/Dentistry | Pharmacy | |
Best Abitur quota |
In this quota, first, a list of applicants is compiled who have completed their Abitur in the same federal state (state list). Subsequently, all state lists are merged into a common federal list. This is based on relevant population shares and applicant numbers. (Criterion: average grade) |
