How does the allocation process work?

With the exception of the places from the quota for foreign applicants and the quota for professionally qualified persons (trial study), all places available at the University of Jena are allocated via HochschulstartExternal link. This also includes the allocation of study places within the framework of the university selection procedure (German abbreviation 'AdH'). Prior to the procedure explained here, a small number of study places are allocated to special target groups (e.g. applicants for a second undergraduate study programme (3%), hardship cases (2%) etc.) via advance quotas.

The remaining study places for Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy (1st subject-related semester) are allocated as follows:

  • 30% of the places according to the average grade (best Abitur quota)
  • 10% of places according to the aptitude quota
  • 60% of places according to the result of a university selection procedure

All applicants automatically participate in all three quotas.

What are the criteria for the allocation of study places in the respective quota?

Quota Medicine/Dentistry Pharmacy
Best Abitur quota

In this quota, first, a list of applicants is compiled who have completed their Abitur in the same federal state (state list). Subsequently, all state lists are merged into a common federal list. This is based on relevant population shares and applicant numbers. (Criterion: average grade)

Aptitude quota
  • TMS & education: In addition, the result of the assessment test for future medical students (TMS)External link and possible vocational training1 play a role.
  • Services & volunteer activities1: of at least eleven completed months or if lasting at least two years.
  • Awards1: Extracurricular achievements & qualifications
University selection procedure

This main quota is divided into three sub-quotas. The criteria include the average grade according to the federal list, the result of the assessment test for future medical students (TMS)External link and possible vocational training1. These criteria feed into the sub-quotas in different proportions.

The average grade of your university entrance qualification according to the federal list, possible vocational training1 and the result of the assessment test for future pharmacy students (PhaST)External link are relevant.
