Why should you consider to apply for an internship

For many students, internships are often not only the first step into professional life, but an opportunity to combine theory and practice, to develop in a particular subject, and are even sometimes a guiding experience. The possibility to be recruited by the company after the end of your internship is not unimportant. Nevertheless, or precisely for this reason, you should select your internships carefully.

An internship gives you the opportunity to:

  • present yourself to a potential employer as a good employee
  • gain an insight into a specific company or field of work
  • develop yourself personally
  • firm up your career goals.

Are you looking for an internship? Visit the job portal of the Career Point. You can also search for vacant internship places on company websites, on notices in the faculties and institutes as well as at the employment agencies. Sometimes you can also apply on a speculative basis, i.e. without an employer having offered a specific internship.

  • Specific information at the institutes

Faculties and their institute often publish information about internships or vacant internship positions in research or in industries related to the specific field of study. If you are currently on site, you are welcome to take a look at the notices institute.

  • Internships abroad

Experience abroad is very much in demand from many employers, particularly in export-oriented companies and firms operating on global scale. Applicants whose CVs include periods abroad demonstrate courage, willingness to move, openness as well as intercultural and language skills. For these reasons, it is worthwhile to think outside of the box and opt for an internship abroad. You should not neglect the fact that, in addition to the professional benefits, an internship abroad is also a great opportunity to learn other countries better than merely from a tourist’s point of view. Alternatively, you can contact the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK) of your respective destination country. You can request specific information on the labour market there and contact companies directly.
