Programme content

Digitization is advancing at a rate of knots. Data volumes are growing, communication processes are becoming more extensive and there is a greater demand for IT solutions than ever before. No company wants to miss the boat to the digital revolution. That’s why we need specialists with expertise in both business and IT. This degree will make you an interdisciplinary expert who is able to develop future-oriented strategies, use cutting-edge ICT solutions to solve operational problems and develop highly specialized applications to aid in decision-making processes.

The combination of information technology and business forms an essential part of the bachelor’s programme in ‘Business Information Systems’. You will focus on the key areas of application systems and e-commerce. Compared to the other Business Information Systems programme with a focus on Information and Management Sciences, much less attention is paid to computer science in this programme.

In addition to mathematics and statistics, some of the pillars of this degree course are Business Administration and Economics. But do you know the difference? Business Administration mainly deals with processes involving companies, such as planning, logistics, marketing and computational models for decisions and actions. Economics looks at the bigger picture by studying macroeconomic relationships. All this content is taught alongside a range of concepts in business information systems, enabling you to actively shape the digital transformation of businesses and society.

Structure

Our bachelor’s programme is the first degree qualifying graduates to work in their profession. The standard length of the study programme is six semesters, and different types of courses are offered for each module (e.g. seminars, lectures or exercises).

In this single-subject Bachelor’s programme, the focus is on one subject comprising 180 credits (ECTS for short; 1 ECTS = 30 hours for attendance, preparation and follow-up work, private study, assessed coursework and examinations). The focus is structured as follows:

You can complete the internship either before the start of your studies, during one of your mid-term breaks or during a semester (by applying for a semester on leave).

Our University also offers the following focus areas: Standard Focus, Business Administration, Economics, Information and Management Sciences, Business Analytics, Business and Economics Education Studies I and Business and Economics Education Studies II. You can change your focus during your studies.

By the way: There is a mathematics bridging course to help you prepare for your studies. We strongly advise all students to attend.
