Working ergonomically

The most common complaints from employees in their day-to-day work are back pain, headaches and fatigue. For the majority of employees, these can be remedied or improved by making small changes or adjustments to the workplace.

Ergonomic consultations at VDU workstations

Prolonged and one-sided sitting is currently one of the greatest health risks in industrialised nations. Humans are actually made for varied and changing movements. Without regular movement, the cardiovascular system weakens, the musculoskeletal system degenerates and the psyche suffers. Many complaints can be avoided by optimising workplace conditions and workplace behaviour. To help you recognise deficits in the design and adjustment of your workplace, there is the option of an ergonomic consultation at the workplace.

Contents

  • Basics of ergonomic workplace design
  • Interaction of all components of a VDU workstation
  • Basics of the bio-psycho-social interrelationships
  • Typical postural errors and dangers of lack of movement
  • Demonstration of individual solutions for compensation, mobilisation and the implementation of movement breaks

Programme of the tender

In part 1, you will receive a keynote speech on "Ergonomics at VDU workstations" (45 min), providing you with basic information on the interaction of all components of a VDU workstation, back-friendly posture and the necessary movement compensation.

Part 2 of the tender includes individual workplace counselling (15 min). The workstation is optimised together (correct adjustment of chair, desk and screen) and valuable tips are given on correct posture. Finally, individual solutions and ideas for regular posture changes, mobilisation exercises and movement breaks are given.

Requirements

At the University of Jena, we organise these for departments, teams and small groups of interested people from 7 people.

Ergonomic consultations in the home office

With the relocation to the home office, your place of work has changed completely. This raises many questions:

  • Where and how do I set up my workstation?
  • Is there an optimal sitting posture?
  • How can I prevent neck and back pain?
  • How do I set up my computer ergonomically?

You can find initial information in the handout on ergonomic working in the home office. This link requires a loginde

Workshops on offer

We regularly organise workshops for employees on individual ergonomic issues. Topics include "Ergonomics at VDU workstations" and "Eye training for VDU workstations".

Current workshops can be found on the University of Jena's Qualifications PortalExternal link.
