Wanted:
Science slammers and finest doctoral hats
On 16 May, the Graduate
Academy celebrates its yearly Sommerfest. Like every
year, there will be a Science Slam at which doctoral
candidates can present their research in an easy and
understandable manner. Until 20 April, you can
register for this joyful competition (via e-mail to judith.malsam@uni-jena.de).
The prices are a unique schiller trophy and 100 Euro.
Furthermore, pictures of
the nicest doctoral hats will be awarded at the Photo
Competition „Hats off!“. Pictures should be handed in
until 20 April (via e-mail to judith.malsam@uni-jena.de).
Prices for the nicest hats will be 50, 40 and 30 Euro.

Application
for certificate programmes possible until 1 June
The Graduate Academy
offers four certificate programmes: „Leadership in
Academia“ („Führung in der Wissenschaft“), „Leadership
in Industry and Society“ („Führung in Wirtschaft und
Gesellschaft“), „Science Management“
(„Wissenschaftsmanagament“) and for the first time in
cooperation with the FSU Gründerservice „Start-up
Management“ („Gründungsmanagement“).
The new programme
„Start-up Management“ addresses doctoral candidates
and postdocs who are interested in self-employment,
entrepreneurship and the commercialization of their
scientific results.
The certificate
programmes are made up of workshops from the
qualification programme of which six courses can be
chosen from a contentually designed portfolio of
workshops. Participants will be given preference in
enrolling in the courses.

Applications for the academic year 2019/20 are
possible from end of April until 1 June.

for candidates for doctoral council (DR.FSU)
Would you like to
organise events for and with other doctoral
candidates, build interdisciplinary networks and get
into a more than professional exchange with other
doctoral candidates at FSU? Would you like to
influence decisions that concern all doctoral
candidates, and thus improve the working and research
conditions at this university?
If you have thought about
the answer to even one of these questions, you should
think about becoming a member of DR.FSU and put your
name on the candidates' list! DR. FSU urgently needs
committed members in order to be able to rightly
fulfill its purpose of standing in for your rights and
interests! If you want to be part of a great team,
fill in the nomination form until 22 May, hand it in
at the election office and run for DR. FSU in this
June's election!

Workshop
on how to do research with and for economy and society
How can research be
carried out together with business and civil society
and what can be the added value deriving from it?
The workshop "Spectrum
Transfer - Research with and for the Economy and
Society" on 19 June tries to answer these questions.
Examples will be used to show how this can be achieved
in practice and which additional career options can
result (not only for MINT subjects, but also for the
social sciences and humanities). The workshop will
start at 16.00h.

Family
brunch and kid’s drawing contest
On 18 May, there will be
a family brunch at VegeTable at Campus
Ernst-Abbe-Platz. A colourful programme will be
presented: a funny theatre play for little children, a
sports programme for every age, a touch-and-feel
parcours, a creative handicraft area and a delicious
family brunch. Tickets will be available at UniShop
starting from 23 April. There will be leftover tickets
available at the event.
All throughout
springtime, the UNIkate kid’s drawing contest will be
running: kids of every age can contribute their
drawing or creative handicraft works. The university
Sommerfest on 28 June will exhibit all works and award
an audience choice on the evening of the Sommerfest.
Contributions can be handed in until 31 May. More

which will take place on 28 May 2019. The University
of Jena cordially invites you to this event at the

Conference
on Career Paths in the Natural Sciences
The conference "I,
Scientist – The conference on gender, career paths and
networking" will take place from 20 to 21 September
2019 at the Technical University of Berlin. The aim of
the conference is to introduce different career paths
in the natural sciences and to inform participants
about career opportunities and obstacles. Among other
things, existing gender-based prejudices will be made
visible and their effects on science will be
discussed. In addition, a career fair will host a
variety of companies, and will give participants the
opportunity to network.

researcher in 2019. The price money is 10,000 Euro.

of DR.FSU: New general regulations, elections and
regular's table
The Thuringian ministry
for economy, science and digital society has approved
the new general regulations of the FSU on
February 21st, 2019. It enables the doctoral
candidates, represented by the DR.FSU, to participate
in most councils of the FSU in an advisory role.
The next elections at the FSU take place in
June. All councils of the FSU will be elected. This is
your chance to become politically active in your
University and get elected for one of the councils.
Besides the participation in the doctoral council
(DR.FSU) you have e.g. the chance to run for a seat in
your faculty council. If you have questions concerning
the upcoming elections, please don’t hesitate to write
to dr.fsu@uni-jena.de.
On April 25th, 2019 starting from 7:30 pm you have the
chance to participate in our monthly regulars’
table. Meet other doctoral candidates, have
relaxed conversations and discuss current topics. We
are looking forward to a nice evening in the bar
“Marktmühle”.
