– What’s next?“ Career evening on 26 November
On 26 November, the
Graduate Academy organises a career evening for
natural scientists on the opportunity of making a
career outside of academia. Natural scientists who
work in fields outside academia are going to talk
about their current job and how they managed to find
and pursue their individual career paths. The event
will be in English.

Mental
Health in Academia: Event on 14 November
The Jena School of
Microbial Communication and the Graduate Academy
invite you to join presentations and discussions on
mental health in academia on 14 November at 16.00h in
the Aula of the University main building
(Fürstengraben 1). Starting from 21.00h, another part
of the event will take place in a relaxed, social
atmosphere in Café Bar "Zu Hause" (Weigelstrasse 7).

Information
event on Tenure Track programme on 2 December
On 2 December, the
Graduate Academy will introduce the relatively new
“Tenure Track”-career option to all interested
audience. Short presentations will provide information
on what Tenure Track means, what distinguishes the
Federal Tenure Track Programme, and what are the
specific challenges of appointment procedures for
tenure track professorships. In addition, two tenure
track professors will report their personal
experiences along this career path. The event will be
in German. It will take place in the Auditorium of the
House "Zur Rosen" (Johannissstraße 13) from 18.00 to
21.00h.

Announcement:
Scholarships for research stays abroad
The scholarship programme
"Erasmus+" supports research stays for doctoral
candidates and university staff members to Belarus,
Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Russia and Israel.
For doctoral candidates, stays of three to four months
will be supported by a monthly grant of 700 Euros and
a single payment of travel costs. The application
deadline is 15 January 2020. For doctoral candidates
who are also university staff members, stays of 5 to
16 days are supported by a daily grant of 180 Euros
and a single payment of travel costs. Applications are
possible at any time.

Call
for papers: Conference for young researchers in Jena
On 26 and 27 May 2020,
there will be a big conference for young researchers
at the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences in
Jena. There, doctoral candidates who work in
application-oriented research can present their
results in front of a scientific audience. Abstracts
for talks or posters can be handed in until 21
January. The conference language will be German.

Excellent
dissertations wanted!
You completed your
doctorate with an excellent mark? You can present the
societal importance of your doctoral project in a
brief german text convincingly? Then apply for the
"Deutscher Studienpreis"!
The Körber foundation
annually awards contributions from young researchers
that show an outstanding societal significance with a
total value of more than 100,000 Euro, among these are
three top prizes of 25,000 Euro each. The announcement
addresses postdocs from all scientific disciplines who
completed their doctorate magna or summa cum laude.
Application deadline is 01 March 2020.

Announcement:
Ars legendi-Prize of the faculties of mathematics and
natural sciences 2020
The Stifterverband
announces in cooperation with the societies of
mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology the Ars
legendi prize 2020. The prize will be awarded in the
aforementioned subjects for outstanding and innovative
achievements in teaching, examining, advising and
supervising. The prize money is 5.000 Euro for each
subject. The application deadline is 15 January 2020.

Nutrition action day
on 19 November
On 19 November, the nutrition action day takes place
from 9.00h to 12.00h in the university main building
(in front of the Aula). The day will focus on the

café on 20 November
The family office of FSU Jena warmly invites those
interested to a „family information café“ on 20
November. While having coffee and cake, you may get
some information about parental allowance, maternal

science
In this workshop, different formats of citizen science
and their suitability for different research questions
will be presented, ideas will be developed jointly and

of DR.FSU: New board, PhD movie and regular’s table
On 7 October, the
constituent assembly of the newly elected doctoral
council (DR.FSU) took place. Astha Jain (Faculty of
Medicine), Casha Ipach (Faculty of Arts) and Julien
Klaus (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science)
were elected as the new board of the council.
Congratulations!
The DR.FSU invites for "Cine_docs"
on 27 November at 19.00h in Hörsaal 2 (Carl-Zeiss-Str.
3). "The PhD Movie" will be shown in English (with
German subtitles). The movie was inspired by the "PhD
Comics" and shows familiar experiences of the
life as a young researcher. Snacks and drinks are
available. The entrance is free!
The next regular’s
table (doc_table) will take place in the
Theatercafé (Schillergässchen 1) on 21 November at
20.00h. We are looking forward to having a beer and
getting in contact with you. The first 5 doctoral
candidates are invited for a free beer.
