Review:
Enjoyable Glimpses into Tenure Track career options
and -experiences in December 2019
For the first time on 2 December
2019, Graduate Academy hosted an information evening
around the new academic career option of Tenure Track,
including the FSU project team and two experienced
tenure track professors. Henrike Müller-Werkmeister of
Potsdam University talked about her insights and
experiences as one of the first junior professors with
tenure track, who started her professorship in 2017,
before tenure track became officially promoted. Jena's
own tenure track junior professor Simon Runkel shared
a nerve-wrecking personal story about the emotional
process of his appointment at the FSU Social Geography
chair.
The evening also offered a lot of
information about Tenure Track as a career option for
young researchers in Germany. Apart from general
information about the national Tenure Track Programme
and specific insights into the appointment procedures
with tenure track professorships, there was a
comprehensive Q and A session for the topic. A little
more than 20 young researchers visited the event at
the auditorium in the House "Zur Rosen". They all
expressed very positive feedback for the evening
programme, as well as the need for more information
and events around this relatively new and little known
career option.
To find more information about the
German Tenure Track, please see our website.
