Looking
back: PhD Day and Three Minute Thesis Finals on 30
January
More than 300 doctoral
candidates, postdocs, and interested students came to
Rosensäle on 30 January to visit the Graduate
Academy's PhD Day. On the evening, more than 100
spectators followed passionately the fourth "Three
Minute Thesis" Competition of FSU Jena. The jury
selected Stefanie Wagner of the Friedrich Löffler
Institute with her presentation called "Defending
infection without complications" as winner of the jury
prize. The audience chose Jordy Pacheco of the
Department of Roman Studies with his presentation "
Oil production, literature demands action " as winner
of the audience prize.

On 19 February, the

is advisable to register soon, because some of the
workshops might be booked out after a short while.

Reminder:
Re-enrolment for Summer Semester 2020
Enrolled doctoral
candidates can re-enrol for summer semester 2020 until
15 February 2020. The semester fee is 230,27 EUR. You
can find the payment information here.
If you would not like to
stay enrolled in summer semester 2020 (because you
finished your doctorate or for other reasons), please
request the withdrawal
of immatriculation (Exmatrikulation).

Mentoring
programme for female doctoral candidates and postdocs:
Applications possible until 29 February
The Rowena Morse
Mentoring Programme aims at helping female young
researchers in the final stage of their PhD and at
developing an individual career path for their postdoc
phase. For this, the doctoral candidates or postdocs
will get an individual experienced mentor for 12
months and will be qualified in specially designed
workshops. Application deadline for the next mentoring
period is 29 February.

Announcement:
Innovation in rare disciplines
The
Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (German Rector’s
Conference) has announced the Competition “Kleine
Fächer: Sichtbar innovativ!” (“Rare disciplines –
visibly innovative!”). It is the self-declared goal of
the competition to inspire young researchers from the
so-called “rare disciplines” to explore new formats of
science communication and develop novel strategies of
networking. The funding programm offers a maximum
funding sum of EUR 10,000.00 for potential personnel
and material expenses. All funded projects have to be
realised within the time period of 1 June to 15
November 2020, but can be flexible as to their
individual duration.
All doctoral candidates
and postdoctoral researchers (in the first 5 years of
their postdoc phase) are eligible to apply, if they
work in the rare disciplines. To check the list of

Deadline is 15 April 2020.

Scholarships
for research stays at Stanford university
For doctoral candidates
of humanities and social sciences, the Krupp-Stiftung
announces three scholarships to fund research stays at
Stanford university. The scholarships are awarded for
six months and are worth 2500 Euro per month.
Application deadline is 16 March 2020.

Workshop

On 18 February, the
Division for Human Resources of FSU offers a two-hour
workshop around the organisation of academic
conferences at Jena University. The workshop offers,
amongst other things, information concerning internal
and external contact persons for conferences in Jena,
as well as instructions around how to efficiently
organise and advertise academic conferences.

doc_games –
Games-Night on 14th February at "Haus auf der Mauer"
With the format doc_games
we want to try a games night. The first games night
will take place on 14th Feb. at 19:00 in the "Haus auf
der Mauer" (Johannisplatz 26). You will have the
opportunity to try to play different board games in
different groups. You are also welcome to bring your
own games.
